France is an economic powerhouse in a variety of industries including telecommunications, aerospace, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals construction, chemicals and nuclear energy production and automobile construction. It is home to many well-known companies such L’Oreal, Air France, Michelin and Carefore. Spending on R&D is also high in France at 2.26% of GDP, the fourth-highest in the OECD.
In business settings, formality and convention are major French characteristics. A rule of thumb is that in business, the French waste little time talking about topics they don't have in-depth knowledge. Furthermore in business meetings the French prefer to get to the point. This may seem an abrupt way of conversing but French business individuals choose to focus on solutions rather than small talk and chatter.
